植田さんと私は、お互いに尊敬する共通の師匠のような方を介して知り合いました。植田さんの発する色の世界は、無条件にこちらの感情を受け入れ深く問いかけるような、強く不思議な力があります。色が主体的に躍動する植田さんのユニークな世界は、「色のすること」というコンセプトワークとなっており、一貫したその姿勢を私は一瞬で大好きになりました。その後もありがたい御縁の連なりがあり、このような解説文を書かせていただけるようになりました。これからも、植田さんの世界を見つめながら、言葉で輪郭をなぞっていきたいと思います（＾＾）

人との御縁は作為ではどうしようもないもの、このような形に着地していることは本当に有難く、感謝の一言につきます。

植田志保　色のすること

色は、様々な波長の光と、それが照らす物体により、私たちが見ることができる刺激です。一色ずつのみでなく、グラデーションやコントラストなどの集合体としてもまた別の複雑な価値が生まれます。もう一つある色のユニークな特徴として、概念と強いつながりがあることが挙げられます。私たちの心の中にそれぞれの色がどのようなものかの認識がしっかりとありますが、色自体を思い出す時、それは形を伴いません。このように考えると、色は周りに当たり前のように溢れていますが、とても不思議な存在です。

また、そのような、形を持たない性質のせいか、顔色、声色、音色などのように、感情や精神といった、感じることができるけれど見えない刺激の表現としても用いられています。例えば、「色即是空」という仏教の考えは、この世のすべての事象は関係性や縁によって成り立ち、何事もつながりから隔絶されることなく、無常の流れの中で存在するというものです。この中で、形を持たずともはっきりと感じ取ることができる性質を持つ色が、すべての事物を表す言葉として用いられています。このような普遍的で本質的な、難儀なものの例えでさえ、色は存在そのもので教えてくれます。

色の世界は、この世界の如く果てしなく広がり、一部にも全体にも、未来にも歴史にも、瞬間にも永遠にも、私たち人間の思いやストーリーを全て受け入れながら寄り添っています。

植田志保は、そんな色の世界と強くつながり、色のすることという活動をしています。色に着眼点を置いた彼女の作品は、まさに色即是空のように、気配や流れ、精神の動きを感じさせる無常の瞬間の切り取りのように感じられます。丁寧で素直なエネルギーがよどみなく溢れ、まるで色がこちらに世界を開いてきたように。

そんな、見えるようで見えない、感じるようで味わい尽くせない、掴めるようで実体が掴みきれない色の世界を、植田志保の作品を通して少しでも身近に感じられたら、とても嬉しく思います。

Shiho Ueda   What colors do

Color is everywhere and such mysterious.

First of all, when visible wavelength lights objects, color is recognized through our eyes. When we see color, not only one color means, but also multiple colors does with complicity with gradation or contrast. Another feature of color is the strong connection with its concept. Although we have certain image of what each color is, it does not have a shape in our minds.

Because of this intangible feature, in Japanese we write ‘color’ as ”色:iro” for the expression of face “顔色:Kao-iro”, for the tone of voice “声色:Kowa-iro” or for a sound “音色:Ne-iro”. They are sensible but invisible stimulus including emotional meanings. Here, as another example, there is a Buddhist lesson “色即是空:All is vanity, matter is void.”. It teaches us that universal transient linkage is the basis of any phenomenon and no matter is isolated from this principle. In this lesson, we allocate color “色” for any phenomenon. Color can express even such universal, essential, and difficult rule.

The world of color is infinite as this world, and supports human society partially or whole, from the past to the future, for a moment or eternally by accepting our thoughts and stories.

Shiho Ueda has been strongly connected with the world of color, and it is named “what colors do”. Her artwork focusing on colors seems as cut-off moment including subtle hints of emotional current, which reminds of “All is vanity, matter is void”. Gentle and honest energy flows in her artwork as the world of colors gets closer.
